The truth: We are living in the dark times.

Be the light in the darkness

On 20 January 2025, President Trump issued an executive order initiating a 90-day freeze on all US foreign assistance, including United States Agency for International Development (USAID) programs, for review. However, in less than 90 days, 83% of the USAID programs have been terminated. This decision has affected almost every country from Albania to Zambia in the sectors of medical and healthcare, human rights and equality, environment and nature conservation, education, and many more.

With the same situation, in the context of refugees, the refugee resettlement program in US which started since 1980 has also come to an abrupt ban causing many refugees unable to be resettled and denied entry into US. Furthermore, back in Malaysia, a few NGOs and projects have also been affected to slow down and worse still close down their operation, huge organization such as UNHCR are also affected greatly.

In such dark time - crisis, it urges and warrants an action. In order to respond to the crisis, Social Work Without Borders (SWWB) has started its operation in partnership with UNHCR alongside the help of SUKA Society since April 2025.

Likewise, here at SWWB, we urge you and each and everyone to be the light in the darkness - be aware and concern, make an effort to contribute or involve in responding to the crisis at hand - to bring light and hope to the people living in the dark.

p/s: find out more about what SWWB does here or speak to us to see how you can contribute in our own capacity and availability.
